Year 2

Welcome to the Year 2 page!

Year 2 has three classes;

the Bright Badgers, the Clever Foxes and the Awesome Otters.

The teachers will tell you about their classes and will be uploading pictures and information about their learning as the school year progresses.

In Year 2 we are fabulous learners! We work hard and use our GRIT in everything we do. We never give up, even when we are faced with the biggest challenges because we know that this is how we will learn. We also love encouraging each other and working together to learn side by side.

Year 2 Learning Themes Autumn 2021

Oracy Driven Curriculum

This year we are continuing to develop our Oracy skills as part of our topic curriculum as well as teaching children to make connections across the subjects. We have found that the children really enjoy this new curriculum and having opportunities to speak confidently about the things they have been learning about.  The children are being introduced to timelines and maps to support their learning connections.

Class Showcase

This year we will give our children the opportunity to ‘showcase’ their learning. The Oracy driven curriculum will drive our class showcases and give children the confidence to share their learning.

Year 2

The children will study 3 topic units this term which will combine History and Geography skills: Homes and Houses, Time travel and Remembrance Day.

Science – Materials, Health and Hygiene.

Is it possible to be kind to everyone all of the time?

Why do Christians believe God gave Jesus to the world?

We are following a new scheme of work called ‘Jigsaw’. The topics this term are:

Being Me in My World

 Celebrating Difference

We will also be continuing with      our No Outsiders work.

PE Kit

This must be in school every day:

  • PE bag including a T-shirt, shorts and plimsolls to change into.

Children have two pieces of homework to complete every week. This includes spelling and reading (racetracks to be completed for this). Children in Year 1 have a termly activity sheet to complete and children in Year 2 will be given a task related to the current theme. If homework is not completed at home, children in Year 2 will be expected to complete this during Golden Time. Thank you for your on-going support with encouraging your child to complete all their homework every week.

Log on to TT Rockstars to help your child get faster.

You can also use this page made by our own Digital Leaders to check your knowledge of each set of times tables.

Our positive behaviour system is based around the 5 school rules. Pupils will get their name written on the rule board if they break any of the rules.

The other strand to our positive behaviour system is based around the acronym ‘REACH IT’!

Resilient      Engaged actively      Accountable       Challenged       Have a go

Independent       Teamwork

Children will earn REACH IT points for working towards these areas. They will receive a small reward for every 100 REACH IT points.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child and their learning. We look forward to another enjoyable term with your children.

Thank you for your continuing support.
