Everybody's Reading Week

by Mrs James

On Thursday 2nd March 2018, Braunstone Frith Primary School celebrated World Book Day by buddying-up across the school to share stories and our love of reading and during the week some AR Superstars, who quizzed on the most words in the year group, shone brightly!

A special competition to find the wackiest, most dedicated class of readers was launched; There have been some brilliant photos sent in so far for Reach for the Stars. Some pupils have almost completed the full range of challenges single-handedly! The pets of Braunstone are especially enjoying being read to!

Every pupil was given one of the World Book Day books to enjoy and keep forever and, on the Friday, we celebrated the wonderful, worldwide tradition of bedtime stories by coming to school in our pyjamas.

Keep reading and keep sending in your photos for Reach for the Stars. We’ll have a wonderful display!

During Everybody’s Reading week at Braunstone Frith each class enjoyed a favourite book with extra class reading time to really get into it. Some super pupils in Year 4 put on their own Poetry Performance, having taken part in a Performance Poetry workshop.

They were brilliant! We also held a special Accelerated Reader word count competition. Many pupils surprised us, and themselves, with their incredible word counts. Rian, in Year 4, clocked up an astonishing 152,212 words!

On Friday 13th October, the whole school came to school dressed-up as a character from their favourite book.

We had so many different, and magnificent, characters from dragons and knights to bears and superheroes. Thank you so much for all the effort and fun that went into the costumes!

Also, on that Friday, we listened out for the bell that told us to ‘Drop Everything and Read!’ There was such a great atmosphere in school, with everybody truly engrossed in reading.

But we don’t always need the excuse of a special week to enjoy extra reading. Is right now a great time to Drop Everything and Read?

Everyone at Braunstone Frith took part in lots of brilliant activities during 2016's Book Week. We crafted pop-up books, took quizzes, had a word competition quiz and on the Friday we all came into school in our pajamas to celebrate reading at bedtime.

Throughout the week older children from KS2 buddied up with children from KS1 to read together.
